Hello! We’re the Pritchards.

Thank you for joining us in the gardens. We are so happy you’re here!

Pritchard Gardens has been growing since 2013 when Kim & Blair moved to Winchester and purchased five acres on Apple Pie Ridge Road. On closing day, our realtor surprised us with Silkie chickens! The farm has slowly grown each year as we gain knowledge and skills and learn from our (many, many) mistakes.

We have a small flock of chickens, ten healthy beehives, three dogs, two gardens, and two children. We spend evenings and weekends on chores while working full-time off the farm.

Kim was born into a dairy farming family in rural Ohio. She spent her childhood roaming freely with cousins, cats, and Holstein calves. After high school graduation, she left the family farm for a big city college without the intention of returning to the farm lifestyle. As she experienced life, the death of her father (her farming mentor), the climate crisis, and the loss of native plants and pollinators, she felt her roots pulling her back into the soil. A lifelong learner, Kim learned the benefits of naturalization, home gardening, and beekeeping, and she pulled Blair and the kids into this adventure! Kim’s perfect day consists of coffee on the porch, playing in the gardens, marveling over the bees, and hanging out with the chickens.

Blair grew up in the suburbs surrounded by community and family and bravely left it all behind for country life in the Shenandoah Valley. He’s the muscle and the realist on the farm, letting Kim dream and play just enough while ensuring she keeps her day job. Blair’s handiwork touches just about every part of farm life.
